About this Course

This nationally recognised qualification is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting older people and individuals with disabilities. The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability) provides the skills and knowledge needed to work confidently and competently in a range of care settings including aged care facilities, disability support services, and home and community care.

You will learn how to provide person-centred support to clients, promote independence and well-being, and work effectively in a team environment. This course is ideal for those beginning their career in the care sector or looking to formalise existing experience with a qualification.

Mode of Delivery

Blended learning – a flexible combination of:

Units You Will Study

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability) consists of 15 units of competency. This includes 9 core units and 6 elective units, carefully selected to give you skills across both ageing and disability specialisations.

You’ll learn a mix of essential foundational knowledge and specialised skills to support older people and individuals with disabilities in a safe, respectful, and empowering way.

Core Units (9 units)

These units provide the foundation of your knowledge and skills to work in a support role:

  • CHCCCS031 – Provide individualised support

  • CHCCCS038 – Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support

  • CHCCCS040 – Support independence and wellbeing

  • CHCCCS041 – Recognise healthy body systems

  • CHCCOM005 – Communicate and work in health or community services

  • CHCDIV001 – Work with diverse people

  • CHCLEG001 – Work legally and ethically

  • HLTINF006 – Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control

  • HLTWHS002 – Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Ageing Specialisation (Group A – 3 elective units)

These units focus on supporting older individuals in aged care and home care settings:

  • CHCAGE011 – Provide support to people living with dementia

  • CHCAGE013 – Work effectively in aged care

  • CHCPAL003 – Deliver care services using a palliative approach

Disability Specialisation (Group B – 3 elective units)

These units prepare you to work confidently with people with disability in various care environments:
